Playing Online with the Demo Version

Postby Skott Bandicoot » 29 Sep 2026, 20:29

Hello everyone! I am asking this because of the information I read in the rules:

topic13-4767.php#p68142

But when I enter the Online & Lan option in the Demo Version game, I got a message that in order to play online I should buy the Full Version.
Is it still possible to play online with the Demo Version as stated in the rules topic?

Thank you!

Hello,

I guess the exact message you saw is : "If you want to play Online with a Modded game, you have to buy the Full version" ; this means you have to remove your Mods to play online.

To do that :
- click on Settings -> Profile -> Show Data Folder
- close the game
- open Mods.ini
- change this line from :
Load = <All>
to :
Load = <None>
- save & close Mods.ini
- launch the game

Side note : the demo is currently not up to date, so you will be able to play only with other demo users in your local network. I'll update it hopefully within 1 week.

Hello Manutoo,

Thank you so much, yes, it is exactly that! I have the Full version in Steam with XKT mod, but I was trying to execute also the Free version. That explains the message.

I have one more question: when I click "Show Data Folder in the Profile", both the Full and Demo versions are using the same Data Folder. Because of this, changing "Mods.ini" to Load = <None> for the Demo also disables the mods in my Full version.

Is there a supported way to make the Demo use a separate Data Folder, for example a folder inside the Demo installation directory, so that the Full version can keep using its own profiles/mods independently?

Something similar to a "portable" mode for example.

Thanks!

The easiest way is to edit the "Tennis Elbow 4 Demo" shortcut that should be on your desktop, and change Target from :
"C:\Program Files\Tennis Elbow 4 - Demo\Game\Tennis Elbow 4.exe"
to :
"C:\Program Files\Tennis Elbow 4 - Demo\Game\Tennis Elbow 4.exe" -ModsIni #None#

Thank you so much Manutoo, this solves what I wanted to do! Now I can enter the Online & Lan menu without any issues.
I have another question, if it's not too much trouble.. When I click on "Find Internet Games", I get this message:

"You have to install the latest version to create a public game" and sometimes: "You have to install the latest version to find Internet games"

Is this referring to the Demo update you mentioned?:

By the way, the idea I have is to play with a user who has the Full version, so that I could join his game. I'm not sure whether this Demo update applies to my case, but I still wanted to ask about it.

Thanks again!

Yes, to do that, you'll have to wait for the next demo update, which should come middle of next week (ie: a couple of days after the next official update).
